Tips On Dating A Filipina

By Peter Finch

Your first date went smoothly, and you want to see more of her. But just because things clicked on your first date does not mean you can relax and take her for granted. In the romantic and sentimental mind of a Filipina, each date is an exciting and thrilling event, so try to make your dates as memorable as ever.

Here are some tips to keep the excitement level going up on your dates:

Smell nice for her.

Nothing turns a woman off so fast than unpleasant body odor. It is not the manly sweat your body exudes (for some it adds more appeal) but bad breath and body odor which could be the result of sheer neglect of soap and water. She has probably spent the whole afternoon in front of the mirror and would be disappointed if her date turns up unshaven, looking dirty and smelling.

Listen, listen and listen.

Listening to your date can help you get to know her better (vice versa). Ask casual questions, but do not prepare a long sheet of questionnaire and tick off the ones she already answered. If you are at ease with each other, conversation should flow naturally and without strain and effort on both sides.

Compliment her.

When you are out on a date, your Filipina girlfriend will still be very nervous and self-conscious, make her feel relaxed and compliment her honestly. Remember she has gone to great lengths to please you and complimenting her will add to her self-confidence and she will feel comfortable with you.

Be a gentleman.

Coming from a conservative culture the Filipinas expect to be treated like ladies. Be a gentleman, open and hold doors or pull her chair out for her. She will value and appreciate these simple gestures. Filipina ladies like the special feeling they get if you treat her like a princess. Going out on a date with a Filipina should be fun and relaxing. She would be eager to hear stories about your growing up years, your family, hometown, your place as this is a whole new world for her, a fantasy place she has not seen.

Time allowance

If being on time is a big issue from where you come from, make a little adjustment when you are dating a Filipina. Do not holler at her ear or walk out if she turns up later than scheduled. Have you ever heard of Filipino time? Stretch your patience if she is a few minutes late because if she appears on the dot she is afraid you would think she is over-eager. Even if she is already in her 50s and has been married before, she will still be playing "pakipot" or hard to get.

Pay for the date.

Pay for the date because she expects you to. Except for the highly-educated ladies who will offer to split the bill with you, conservative Filipina ladies would think she would lose face if she pays for your date. To her it would be tantamount to spending her own money just to have a date.

And most important of all, bring a big dosage of sense of humor with you. It comes in handy especially during this stage when you are putting up the foundations of a future relationship.

Your First Date With A Filipina Lady

By Peter Finch

So you're going out on your first date. This is your first testing of the waters, and you could not stop a Filipina lady from feeling nervous - especially if this is her first time to go out on a date with a foreigner. She will be apprehensive because this first date could "make or break" your future together. Here are some tips to make a good impression on your first date with a Filipina lady.

Look and smell good. Pay attention to your personal grooming. If you appear at her doorsteps as presentable as you can be, she will be very proud to be seen with you in public. Remember her family matters. If your girlfriend is living with her family and you are fetching her from her house, take a few minutes to chat with her parents or siblings. It will make them feel secure to think that their daughter is in good hands with you.

Pick a public venue for your first date, like a downtown or a beachside restaurant, concert, or a show. Never by any means insist that you take her to your hotel room.

Do not act as though you are over-eager to get your hands on her, no matter how long you have been familiar with each other in the chat room.

Do not try to be too forward with a Filipina especially on this first date. She will feel offended that you do not respect her. You may get the shock of your life if she slaps you in public or walks out on you. Your date needs to feel safe and secure with you. Do not restrict her and instruct her to turn off her cellular phone, as she would consider this as her lifeline "in case things get out of hand" while you are together. You, after all are a stranger.

Take an interest in your date but do not ask a lot of questions, like her past relationships, or dig for personal information that will only embarrass her. Talk only about things in general, and leave the investigative questioning to the FBI.

Do not ply her with drinks. The majority of Filipina ladies, especially those from the conservative families very rarely drink, if at all. A glass or two of wine or beer may mean nothing to the women in your country but for somebody not used to it, it may spell a different story. If you are dining out, bring your table manners with you. It is a big turn off for a Filipina lady to see you talk with your mouth full, or eat with your mouth open, or slurp your food. One more thing, she will expect you to pick up the bill.

To kiss or not to kiss? Most Filipina ladies would not expect a goodnight kiss from you especially as this is your first date. Do not be disappointed if you try and she turns her head away because she may be undecided between wanting to receive your kiss or fear that you will think she is cheap.

After your date, act every inch like a gentleman and take her back to her house. Thank her for going out with you but be honest and do not make promises if you have no plans to see her again. Remember, a successful first date is your key to succeeding dates in the future.

Marrying a Filipina - What to Expect

By Amarind Tan

What makes Filipina women so right for marriage? If you're thinking about marrying a Filipina, then here are ten reasons why you should do exactly just that.

Filipinas are hospitable. When they have guests over, you can be sure that you are treated like a VIP. They take pride in their homes. For them, building a warm, safe and loving atmosphere is an important part of being a wife. The home is a symbol for them, so screaming or breaking furniture is not really a Filipina's cup of tea.

Filipinas value family. Filipinas give the utmost importance to family. The value of having a loving family has been instilled in the hearts of Filipinas growing up. The family serves as a cornerstone for them. Once committed, the Filipina would put her family first before anything - career, money, or friends. Rest assured that a Filipina will do everything to protect and keep her family together.

Filipinas are God-fearing. More than ninety percent of Filipinos are Christians or Catholics. Usually, Filipino children are brought up going to church or knowing the concept of fearing God. So, most Filipinas are definitely devoted to their religion, using God as their anchor and not money or power.

Filipinas have high regard for marriage. Whether you were married in the church or by a judge, the Filipina will always value the sanctity of marriage. In the Philippines, there is no law for divorce - just annulment or legal separation. This makes sense with a culture that gives utmost worth to matrimony and the union of two souls. Marriage to a Filipina is a life-long commitment - once she sets her heart upon marrying someone, chances are, she will be sticking to him for life. Filipinas think that marriage should not be played around with because it is a gift from God.

Filipinas are educated. Filipinos think that having a good education is as important as eating right. Filipino parents would say that they are blessed when all of their children have graduated college. Filipinas are proud of their accomplishments. Unlike other Asian societies, the Filipinos are open to females doing well in any field - business, medicine or male-dominated fields like engineering or information technology. It is common for Filipinas to juggle both being career women and being homemakers - they do quite a good job at the balancing act.

Filipinas know when to be submissive. They say Asian women are submissive. Filipina women are submissive too - but not all the time. Filipinas know their place when it comes to the household, but they won't be afraid to step up when their family needs it. Filipinas will show you their care and love openly and will provide quiet understanding to their family. Filipinas are very tactful - they know how to be composed especially during social situations. They speak politely and carefully but not without substance.

Filipinas are naturally beautiful. Most Filipinas are a mix of Spanish, Chinese, Malay and other races. The Philippines is a melting pot of different races and that makes a Filipina beautiful and unique.

If you are considering marrying one, these reasons will give you an idea about your future with a Filipina wife. If you are looking for a marriage that you can cherish forever and if you want a loyal companion in life, you'll never go wrong with marrying a Filipina.

Does Your Age Make A Difference To A Filipina Woman?

By Peter Finch

For most of the Filipina ladies, age does not matter. Since easy internet access became popular and affordable to the average Filipina girl, the sight of young girls chatting and eventually marrying foreigners who are 20 or even 30 years their senior.

The 4M idea (stands for "Matandang Mayaman Madaling Mamatay" which means rich old man who will die soon) became a famous joke on the streets whenever a sexy 20-year old Filipina lady pass by holding the hands of a 50-year old foreigner. Chances are he has been divorced once, twice or even thrice but she takes no notice of the joke or the speculations of the people. It is her own happiness and future she is thinking of.

The age gap actually makes older men more desirable to younger ladies because for one, they are already settled and financially stable. Filipina girls also consider older men as more mature and less promiscuous because they have had their share of fun in their younger days.

For a young Filipina lady, age is not a barrier to relationships and even marriage. Filipinas are romantic at heart and they believe that when love strikes, (or necessity, whichever it is) age does not matter. They do not consider your advanced age to be a burden to them in the future because they look at you as a lifetime partner and will be there for you "for better or worse".

You may notice when you look at profiles of Filipina ladies in dating sites that they do not really put too much weight on a man's age. What is important for them is more emotional involvement and the older a man gets, the higher the maturity level she can expect from him.

Filipina ladies, especially those who grew up having to take care of younger siblings know what responsibility is all about and would naturally look for an older man who would take care of her when she marries. Usually, she is forced to take the role of surrogate mother to her younger siblings when her parents have to work outside the home to earn money for their daily needs. Sad to say that for some families, the poorer they are, the more children they produce and statistics can prove this.

Families whose parents have wide age gaps and yet able to maintain harmony in the home also serve as role models for their female children, so when the girls grew up, they will naturally look for the harmony which their parents shared despite the age difference.

A Filipina does not see the advanced age or physical attributes of a foreigner as a hindrance to marriage. She will be happy to serve her husband and submit to his reasonable demands, as long as he provides, cares for her and treats her well. Her priority is to be respected her as a wife and not as an investment take care of him in his retirement years.

Filipino Girls Play Hard To Get

By Thor Kristinsson

The traditional "Dalagang Filipina" (Filipina Maiden) is shy and secretive about her feelings for a suitor and denies it even though she really likes the man. Filipinas "Pinays" are "mahinhin" (modest, shy, with good upbringing, & well mannered); she is also not supposed to go out on a date with several men. Thus, not to be described as "malandi" (flirt), which is a taboo in Filipino culture as far as courtship is concerned.

Filipino women are expected to be "pakipot" (playing hard to get) because it is seen as an appropriate behavior in a courtship dance. By playing hard to get, the Filipina tells the man that he has to work hard to win her love. It is also one way by which the Filipina will be able to measure her admirer's honesty and genuineness. Some courtships could last years before the woman accepts the man's love.

In Philippine culture, courtship is far more subdued and indirect unlike in some Western societies. A man who is interested in courting a Filipina has to be discreet and friendly at first, in order not to be seen as aggressive or too presumptuous. Friendly dates are often the starting point. Later, couples may go out on their own but is still to be done discreetly. If the couple has decided to reveal their relationship in public, they will tell their family and friends as well.

Nowadays, courtship is mostly about the same but the time spent for it shortens for so many reasons. First is the modernization of how to have a communication between two people. Before courtships took years because communications was just through letters and gifts sent to each other by a third party or what they call the "bridge", unlike now there's already email, cellular phones and telephones etc. Faster for the message to get through, the faster you'll win her heart. And the faster the courtship ends.

Due to the emerging modernization on dating, Filipinas are often depicted stereotypically as "Mail Order Bride". A misconception that is as insulting to you as it is to a Pinay. Filipinas are not docile and submissive women, they're only looking for a man who acts like a man and treats them like a lady.

A Filipina Lady - What's Her Style

By Peter Finch

A typical Filipina lady is concerned for her future, therefore she will not make reckless decisions where this is concerned. She grew up and was reared differently from the women in your country, and it would be to your advantage if you try to dig deeper and understand her culture.

If you are serious about your Filipina girlfriend and is considering her as a prospective bride, she would naturally want to know more about you, your background and what makes you tick just as you want to get to know her. Be prepared to answer questions about you, like your education, family, food tastes, what you expect in a wife, and everything because she feels this is important to gauge whether you and she will fit together.

Do not be alarmed (that is if you have nothing to hide). She will not put you through a lie detector test or make you sit on a hot seat to be grilled but she just wants to satisfy her curiosity and fill in the blanks about you. Remember again that when a Filipina decides to love you, she considers it a lifetime commitment so she needs to take things seriously before she takes the plunge.

She will want to know if you are willing to accept her whole family as your own, and if you prepared to provide financial assistance if they need it. If you have pre-conceived notions that Filipina brides are submissive and would obediently bow to your wishes even if it is against what they feel, then think again.

Filipina ladies are not the "yes-yes-dear" types although they will not argue with you on issues but take note that she has her sophisticated but subtle ways of getting you to do what they want. She will not confront you especially when there are other people nearby but if you do that to her, expect yourself to be on the receiving end of her withdrawn or sullen mood.

Although Filipina females in general are all loving, sweet and warm beings, they come from different walks of life and naturally differs from each other. There are Filipinas who come from rich families who were born with plenty of privileges others do not have. There are widowed or separated, working Filipinas, students, and the ones who come from destitute families.

A traditional Filipina maiden is shy and secretive about her real feelings for a suitor and would deny it even if she is really in love with him. Society frowns upon a woman who immediately admits her true feelings and it makes her feel like an easy target or a cheap woman. This also means that the path to her heart is overcome with hurdles, made even harder when distance is between you and you have to work towards a relationship through the internet.

Always remind yourself that you are dating a Filipina woman and her styles and attitude are very different from the girls you are accustomed to in your country.

Courtship Presents For Your Filipina Fiancee

By Peter Finch

A Filipina lady, just like all the other descendants of Eve feels special when the man she is with gives her a gift but do not be alarmed, you do not have to scrimp the whole year and stick to bread and water because gifts should not be expensive. For a Filipina woman, it is the thought that counts, and not the value of your gift.

Before visiting your girlfriend in the Philippines, you should have already known something about her through your chat sessions, phone conversations, emails, and other ways. You should already have an idea what are her interests and hobbies, what she really likes.

From what you know about her, buy an appropriate date gift. For example, your Filipina girl is a bookworm. You should know by now who her favorite authors are and what type of books she reads. Expect her to be happy when you give her a book by her favorite author.

Flowers and chocolates are all-time favorites, too. Since time immemorial, they had never failed to serve the purpose of making the recipient feel special and loved. The secret is to know her first, and you will know what gift to pick out for her. You will be surprised at how Filipina ladies tend to go sentimental on gifts and may even keep wrappers as souvenirs.

Take note that when you come a courting to your girlfriend's house, you must again remember that the Filipina lady comes from a family-oriented society and are expected to bring pasalubong (bringing of gifts) to her family. They would appreciate it. Again, you do not have to go overboard but whatever gift you give them would prove that they are in your thoughts and you also consider them as your future family.

Before you leave for the Philippines, it would be helpful if you pick up bottles of fragrance for your Filipina girlfriend's parents, and they will appreciate this. Gifts from foreign countries are considered highly prized even though they can be bought in the Philippines at a much lesser price. Do not also expect Filipinos to open the gift in front of you. They will often place the gift aside after thanking you, and open this later preferably in private.

Expect your Filipina girl to share whatever she gets with her family. For example, if you give her a box of chocolates, do not expect her to hide under the covers and eat it after everyone is asleep.

The best time to give your gift for your girlfriend could be when at the airport when she picks you up, as pasalubong is customarily given right when you arrive but if it is inconvenient, you can present your gift to her after you have unpacked.

You do not actually have to give gifts, but if you do, its considered a very nice gesture, and you will be seen as a 'very nice man' who brought things for all the family.Remember, to court a Filipina is also to court the family!

So You Want To Propose? Here's How Your Filipina Lady Would Prefer You To Do It

By Peter Finch

Filipina ladies are romantic at heart. This should be your first consideration when you are planning to pop the question that would change the course of your lives forever once she says yes. For a Filipina lady, entering into marriage is a serious matter because she views this as a life-long commitment, not some experiment where she can drop everything and go home when things go wrong.

Before you propose to your Filipina girlfriend, talk about the possibility of getting married, children, relocation and other issues. This will give you a chance to gauge her reaction and see how serious she is. So when you pop the question, do not expect a Filipina woman to say yes right away.

There are many ways for you to propose and here are some ways your Filipina girlfriend would appreciate:

First of all, observe the flow of things first. Listen to your heart and your feelings and do not propose too early in the relationship. Get to know her a little more because because you can not afford to be impulsive and make a rash decision will affect your future.

Choose a suitable place to propose. It could be anywhere as simple as your living room, or you can whisk her off to her favorite beach resort, but do not propose to her while she is haggling with the fish vendor in the supermarket, when she is too engrossed in a horror film at the theatre, or when she is shouting at the top of her lungs during a basketball game.

Make your proposal a surprise. Pop the question when she least expects it. Be as creative and unpredictable as you can be. Your Filipina lady will not think you corny if you drop on your knee and take her hand when you ask her to be your wife. Women could not just resist something so charming and romantic about a man on bended knees.

Tell her why you want to marry her. Filipina ladies usually experience kilig or thrill when you tell her what marriage with her means to you, that you can not imagine living without her in the future, and that your life took on a colorful change after you met her. However, be honest with your feelings. Do not say things you do not mean because remember, she looks at marriage as a lifelong commitment. Make sure of your feelings first before you propose.

When she says yes, this is time for you to remember again that you are planning to marry a Filipina lady and her family is important to her. As a foreigner, you will be expected to ask the parents. It is a practice to ask her parents or guardians for their blessing and consent. Customarily, you are supposed to bring your parents with you and formally ask the hand of your girlfriend but this is not always possible.

Again, a word of warning, do not propose to a Filipina lady if you are not serious. You are asking for more trouble than you can handle if you do so.

A Man's Guide to the Perfect Filipina Bride

By Jonas Patterson

In order to find your perfect Filipina match you must first know what real Filipina women are (not the misperceptions of Filipinas you have grown up with) and make sure you can deal with certain issues once the marriage is official.

Do Filipina Women Prefer Western Men To Filipino Men?

All a Filipina wants when looking for a man is a stable lasting relationship. Considering the double standards in the Philippines and the fact that they don't have divorce, it is true that Filipina women have a lot to contemplate when considering marrying a Filipino man. Western men are perceived as being more modern and loving than Filipinos so it is no surprise when they are more desirable for a life companion.

Do Filipina Women Prefer Men Who Are Many Years Their Senior?

Statistically, Western men who are looking for a Filipina wife are above the age of 35. What makes them desirable is that they are perceived by Filipinas as more mature, less promiscuous, and financially stable. Such men have a better than average income, a college education and most have been divorced once and are seeking a stable lasting life-long relationship.

Is It True That Filipinas Are Submissive Little Sex Kittens?

Now here is the inconsistency. Many western men want their future Filipina wife to be a virgin, and yet they are unwilling to accept the limitations that such virtue implies. They wish for a wife with no sexual history, yet hope that she has nothing else on her mind other than to please their sexual desire.

In reality many Filipinas have advanced degrees of education and professional lives. It could hardly be presumed that their only purpose in life is to fulfill some man's wildest dreams. What you do get when marrying a Filipina is woman dedicated to her family and striving to keep her marriage successful.

Do You Want A Big Family?

Family will always remain a great priority for Filipino women; and not just any family, but a big extended family. Ask yourself if you want a big family and children (more children) because you can be sure that any Filipina does.

Are You Religious?

There are three primary religions in the Philippines: 83% Roman Catholic, 9% Protestant and 5% Muslim. It is common amongst Filipino society to raise the family in the church. So be prepared for some soul-searching on this matter since she is probably more devoted to her religion than you are to yours. Your perspective Filipina bride would most likely dream of a church wedding, and some families even forbid their daughters to get married without one.

Are You Ready To Accept Your New Wife's Family As Your Own?

You should be prepared to provide financial assistance to your new, extended family when they have a need of medical attention, or things like schooling or food. If you are capable and refuse to help them, your lack of generosity would be inexplicable for your Filipina wife and though she may not say anything, she will neither respect you nor understand.

Are You Looking For A Filipina Wife Because You Hate The Women Of Your Own Country?

You realize that it is not reasonable to hate an entire gender, right? Even within the confines of a single country. If you are marrying a Filipina, it should be because of who she is, not who she is not.

Basically these are the main guides you should follow when deciding whether a Filipina wife is right for you. If you can handle these issues, I think you have made a great decision by choosing a Filipina for your life companion and I can only wish you luck in finding the perfect Filipina bride for you!
